Abstract
In this paper a novel higher-order neural network structure is proposed. A combination of the Sigma-Pi network (as feature extractor) in the first layer and the functional link network (as a classifier) in the second layer is used in a difficult problem of real work gray scale image recognition (human faces classification) invariant to translation, change of scale, and in plane rotation. Both theoretical background of the problem as well as theoretical and practical results are presented.
