Abstract
In this paper, we discuss methods of enhancing such compressive edge detectors to achieve greater accuracy, then derive morphological operations of erosion and dilation with the von Neumann template over VQ- and VPIC-compressed Boolean imagery. Additional analysis pertains to the formulation and testing of compressive component labeling algorithms. Analyses include a model of computational complexity as well as theoretical and experimental assessment of information loss incurred by computing over lossy compressed imagery. We show that numerous operations over VPIC-compressed imagery can be implemented in terms of one invocation per compressed pixel of a small lookup table. This facilitates fast computation on workstations and parallel processors, which our algorithms are designed to support.
