Abstract
Communication management is discussed in the context of a decentralized target tracking system, based on a simulated aircraft scenario. An intelligent algorithm, motivated by information theory, is generally found to outperform a simple non-intelligent algorithm. These results depend, for example, on the maneuverability of the targets that are being tracked. They are indicative of the performance trade- offs (e.g. tracking accuracy vs. numerical processing load) that will be required in the design of future decentralized tracking systems.
