1 January 1995 Effect of spool diameter on the temperature-dependent extinction ratios of polarization-maintaining fibers

Abstract
The temperature dependence of polarization-maintaining fibers, wound onto two different diameter (4- and 1-in.) glass cylinders, is measured and compared. The fluctuation of the extinction coefficient for the smaller spool is much greater for the same set of conditions and is roughly proportional to the rate of the temperature change.
