Abstract
Pedestrian transportation is an important mode of travel in historical cities, which can improve traffic congestion and environmental pollution. The road resources in the historical city are in short supply, and the planning and design of pedestrian roads are difficult. The existing road classification is often divided according to the road grade, lack of consideration of the network structure, there is room for improvement. This paper takes the ancient city of Suzhou as the research object, uses space syntax to analyze the structure of pedestrian road network, selects indicators such as integration, selectivity, and intelligibility for analysis, and uses hierarchical clustering method to divide the existing road network into four categories according to network indicators. Finally, optimization measures for pedestrian traffic are proposed for different types of roads. The structural analysis of the pedestrian road network in this paper can provide a basis for the classification, evaluation and planning and design of the historical ancient city roads. The practical application of the ancient city of Suzhou verifies that the method has certain reliability.
