Abstract
A cold fluid model is used to investigate instabilities associated with a velocity shear dueto the eigenfields of a relativistic electron beam [1] inside the beam tunnel of a gyrotron. Results are used to supplement the information provided by a stationary particle-in-cellcode in order to simulate time dependent effects. General statements concerning thestability of such an electron beam system are possible.
