Abstract
Rare gas and rare gas-oxygen mixtures have been excited with e-beams, leading to new emission features in the ultraviolet. Strong new emission bands are observed at 185.0 and 204.5 nm in the case of Ar/O2 mixtures. Time dependence measurements of these Ar/oxygen bands suggest that they either have a common origin or a common precursor. New emission features arising from the interaction of Kr and oxygen have also been recorded following excitation of Kr/O2 and Kr/N2O mixtures.
