Abstract
The LCPC (Central Laboratory of Bridges and Roads) is a state research organization, working for the state and the local authorities, involved in civil engineering. LCPC has large testing facilities such as a circular Pavement Fatigue Test Track, for researches in the road field, which is composed of several parts of different known structures. As this test site is particularly adapted for GPR investigations, we have studied a commercial GPR system for the thickness measurement of its asphalt layers. Different structures of roads have been investigated with a GSSI system. Cores have been drilled, permittivity measurements have been done. All the results are compared: cores, velocities and GPR picking measurements. A last study has consisted in avoiding calibration with cores drilling, by recording GPR signals in a CMP mode (common middle point) on the multi-layer structures. Several antennas, and frequencies, have been used in order to study the accuracy of this nondestructive testing method compared to the needs of the end-users.
