This paper describes a detecting and tracking system based on stereo video. Facial features are extracted in the first frame pair and tracked in the following frames. Stereo vision is applied to enhance the correctness and precision of the feature points. During detection the face position and feature regions are determined first, then an Active Appearance Model is used to find the accurate positions of feature points, and finally the camera parameters are used to perform a stereo reprojection. The same reprojection is applied following the Kanad-Lucas-Tomasi tracker during the tracking procedure, assuming that the head is a rigid object. Experimental results demonstrate that AAM and stereo reprojection improves robustness and accuracy remarkably.
