Abstract
Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) is an empirical measure of performance of an integral system consisting of communication equipment and a human observer. ROC of two systems may interesect, thus making comparison of two ROC's difficult. Divergence (Kullback) can be used as a figure of merit for comparison in such instances. A theoretical basis of ROC necessary to calculate divergence from ROC is elaborated.
