Abstract
Theoretical possibility of nonlinear TE-TM mode coupling in a thin-film optical waveguide has been examined. Described phenomenon was obtained by third-order nonlinear interaction between two guided modes with different polarizations and two waves falling from outside on the waveguide surface. Phase matching of interacting waves was ensured by choosing proper incidence angles of the falling waves. Effectivity of the interaction depends on the intensity of the external waves and the lenght of the interaction region.
