Guillermo L. Monroy, Ph.D., is currently a senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduating from the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Illinois (BS), he pursued graduate education in the Dept. of Bioengineering at Illinois (PhD - 2018). Before his current role, he completed an ORISE Postdoctoral Fellowship at the U.S. FDA in the Division of Biomedical Physics within CDRH’s Office of Science and Engineering Labs.

He has written over 15 peer-reviewed first-author publications and book chapters, has over 35 co-author publications, 4 patents and disclosures, served as a reviewer for 20+ manuscripts, written and managed numerous grants, IACUC, and IRB protocols, and is a current member of SPIE and BMES. Recently, Guillermo served as an instructor for an undergraduate senior-level control systems class of 100 students and guest lectured in many other undergraduate and graduate courses on a variety of topics in engineering, medical imaging, biophotonics, regulatory/safety, and innovation for device development.

His professional background and interests include clinical translational research to investigate and advance biophotonics applications and systems, plasma medicine, photobiomodulation, and other emerging therapeutic approaches. He enjoys teaching, mentoring, and collaborating with students, clinicians, and researchers in diverse fields to create technologies that may improve human and animal health.
