I presently offer services as a technical consultant for space-based optical systems.
My career has focused on space-based optical systems for defense, astronomy, weather, and Earth resources. I have also participated in significant programs involving ground-based optical laboratory test equipment and several commercial, industrial, and medical products. I have managed strategic, tactical, civil space, and other types of programs as a senior program manager.
Specialized in optical components and optical assemblies for NASA and DoD applications throughout my career. These designs include lightweight beryllium, glass, glass ceramic, and other materials. I have experience designing to meet the ultra-high, long-term stability requirements for space-based mirrors, structural components, lenses, and integrated assemblies.
Program manager for designing and developing the suite of integrated optics used in the LLNL/BMDO/NASA Clementine mission that mapped the moon. Managed program for NASA/NOAA geosynchronous weather satellite telescope and several programs for optical systems used in space-based, free-space laser communication. Primary Mirror manager for polishing lightweight beryllium mirrors for the Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Experience with requirements, design, and fabrication of overhead persistent infrared reconnaissance (OPIR) optical sub-systems.
Managed design and development programs for factory optical test equipment for a stellar sensor in an Astro-inertial guidance system. Managed design and development of Hubble Stimulus, laboratory test equipment used to test the Wide-Field Planetary Camera 2, which corrected the aberrations of the Hubble Space Telescope.
Managed commercial programs that developed a high-precision projection lens used to develop the Digital Light Processor chip (DLP) and a first-of-its-kind X-ray-to-visible scintillator integrated with a Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope containing a high-resolution CCD for digital mammography.
