SC335: Photonic Crystals and their Optoelectronic Applications
The first part of the course is concerned with the fundamentals of photonic crystals and a brief history on their development. This is followed by a discussion of various efforts to realize such a crystal structure in the infrared and optical wavelengths using state-of-the-art fabrication tools. The applications of photonic crystals in single mode light-emitting-diodes, add-drop filters, low loss waveguide bends, and polarization selectors are reviewed.
