Profile Summary

• Photorefractive effect in liquid crystals. Theoretical modelling of photorefractive effect and two beam coupling in LC filled with ferroelectric nanoparticles, LC placed between two photo-conducting surfaces;
• Ferroelectric core-shell nanoparticles. Theoretical study of electric field control of domain structure in ferroelectric nanoparticles using tunable shells. Modeling of tuning of 3D vortex states in core-shell ferroelectric nanoparticles;
• LC filled with nano-and micro-particles. Estimated the phase transition temperature shift and order parameter change due to the particles presence. Electro- magneto-optics of LC filled with ferroic particles. Threshold electric/magnetic field and refractive index dependence on the field strength are calculated and compared with the experimental data;
• Adaptive LC lenses. Focal length dependence on the applied electric field.
• Polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLC). Effective dielectric function and light scattering cross sections are calculated in PDLC. Ultrasound interaction with PDLC droplets;
• Photoalignment of LCs. Theoretical modelling of photo-induced change in liquid crystal director anchoring and pretilt angle onto photosensitive aligning surfaces;
• Surface phenomena and anchoring effects in liquid crystals;
• Linear and nonlinear optics of liquid crystals (including conformational nonlinearity) Theoretical modelling of LC refractive index change and phase transition temperature shift due to photoinduced change in the conformation of LC molecules
• Metamaterials, cloaking, plasmonics. Controlling metamaterials with help of liquid crystals. Tuning conventional surface, localized and Tamm plasmons using liquid crystals
